Use Dolly to Send Your Old Belongings to the Donation Center

Looking to quickly deliver old furniture or a pile of clothes to Goodwill? Do you have a mattress to donate to the Salvation Army? Moving service. Dolly is ready to come, load your belongings and take them to one of the major donation centers in your city – you don’t even have to travel with you.

Dolly is similar to Uber and Lyft, except that it provides moving and transportation services. Think pickups, vans, etc. You can use Dolly to move your furniture to your new apartment – I’ve done this more than once – but the app also gives you the option to order donation giveaways.

Here’s how it works: If you live in one of the cities Dolly currently serves, you can download the Dolly app and request a donation transfer. Then indicate the number and size of the items you plan to donate (you don’t have to be accurate with your measurements; just choose between small / medium / large), take a photo of the items, and select the time window in which you want to schedule your Dolly.

The app will connect you to your Assistant (yes, that’s what they are called), who will arrive within the time window, load your belongings into the truck and take them to the donation center. You don’t have to follow Dolly to the center or even help them load the truck; all you have to do is be there when your helper arrives.

Dolly’s average donation cost is $ 72 , so you’ll have to decide if this is a fair exchange for taking a bunch of boxes and furniture out of your home or apartment.

One drawback? You will not be there to receive your donation receipt if you planned to deduct the donation from taxes.
