Everything New in Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Update

The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL may be some of the best Android phones out there , but they are still released with a few bugs and issues . Google is now doing its best to address these issues with the November software update .

For the Pixel 2 XL, that means fixing some of the display issues that customers with a larger smartphone experience, although the smaller Pixel 2 also gets at least one fix. Here’s everything you need to know about the new update.

Display fixes for Pixel 2 XL

There are two separate issues with the Pixel 2 XL’s screen, and Google intends to fix both of them with this update. First, it’s a washed-out display that makes colors look washed out according to some critics and buyers. To fix this, Google is replacing the old Vivid Colors toggle with three new display settings: boosted, natural, or rich. The one you want is rich, which should help solve the problem by improving the colors on the screen.

The update also fixes an even bigger issue with the Pixel 2 XL: screen discoloration caused by burn-in or image retention. In particular, some people noticed that the outlines of Android’s on-screen navigation buttons seemed to remain forever on the display.

To address this issue, Google has lowered the maximum screen brightness of the Pixel 2 XL. The navigation bar will also automatically disappear if you are not using it. Hopefully this solves the issue without any hardware fixes.

Pixel 2 noise issues and security fixes

If you opted for the Pixel 2 instead, you may have noticed a “faint click”. Google says this has been fixed in a new update. So the hardware problem is most likely not the problem.

Finally, the update fixes the Wi-Fi KRACK vulnerability discovered in October. Therefore, even if you are using an older Pixel or Nexus device, you should still install the latest software to protect your phone.
