How to Simulate Piano Playing: Lesson 3

Update 02.02.18: While we are fixing the embedded video above, watch this video on YouTube .

Welcome to Episode 3, How to Pretend to Play the Piano . In Lesson 1, composer Jason Oberholzer taught you what to do with your left hand . In Lesson 2, he taught you scales and keys in C major . Today he will show you the chords and keys outside of C major.

As I understand it, a person who has a hard time understanding music, as shown in the video, Jason takes the “learn three chords” approach from guitar lessons and applies it to the piano. It’s not about learning how to play a concert pianist, but it teaches you enough to have some fun.

I had a problem with the way Jason taught me the D key. For now, I’ll stick with the C key. But if you understand much faster than I do, now a whole world of music opens up for you.

This is the part where even with our shortcuts you won’t learn much without practice. But your practice can be arbitrary — you don’t have to repeat “Mary had a lamb” a hundred times.
