Explore Space With Google Maps

Yesterday Google added more than 500,000 images from the spacecraft to Google Maps , many of which were captured by Cassini launched into space 20 years ago.

All of these photographs were put together to recreate several planets and moons, turning them into a kind of model that you can visit using Google Maps. As with Street View on Earth, you can explore each location and zoom in on individual landmarks, such as the Ice Plains of Enceladus, for a better view.

Google added a total of 12 “new worlds” to explore in Maps, including the planets Pluto (which will always be a planet for me), Venus and Mars.

To make your own trip into space, you just need to switch to street view in Google Maps and then start zooming out. You can also get a direct flight by clicking here .

While you won’t need it (yet), it’s awfully fun to learn.
