How Many Burpees Can You Do Before You Want to Die?

Today is World Burpee Day, and while we’re pretty sure this is just a marketing ploy, we’re curious: what is your relationship with the horrible burpee? How much can you do? How much do you want to do if this number is not zero?

Personally, I can do ten. I just did them, with a push-up at the bottom and a jump at the top. On the tenth rep, my legs said nothing, so I took a break. I may never return. Burpee is difficult .

To be clear, there are many ways to make burpees, and there is a lot of debate about which one is the “right” one. Here is one of the most common versions:

  1. Take a plank position.
  2. Push ups (optional?)
  3. Stand up.
  4. Bounce!

Repeat this until you feel like you want to die. When my kids get violent, I sometimes tell them to do burpees to burn off energy. There is an instruction: “Put your stomach on the floor, then jump into the air.” After a few of them, they were too out of breath to whine.
