How to Change Google Assistant to Male Voice

A few years ago, C-3PO was the Waze voice on my phone for six great months. I drove from California to North Carolina that December, and when my favorite droid gave me directions, it was all so much nicer. I love it when you can change the voice of the digital assistants you deal with on a daily basis. Of course, this doesn’t add any functionality, but sometimes it’s interesting to change something. And now you can change the voice of the Google Assistant on your Android phone or in your Google Home settings.

Many thanks to Android Central for pointing out that this feature is available now.

To make this happen, press the Home button on your phone to launch Google Assistant, and then click that blue icon in the upper right corner of the page. From there go to the settings menu, then to settings, then to Assistant Voice.

In Google Home, you will need to go to the app, select “More settings” from the hamburger menu, and then “Settings” and then “Voice Assistant”.

The male voice is labeled “Voice 2” and the female version is “Voice 1”.

That’s all. It’s very easy to change (and very easy to bring back) if you want to try something new.

Note: This feature is not yet available everywhere, so if you are outside the US, you may have to wait a bit before it becomes available on your device.
