The Most Annoying Features of IOS 11
iOS 11 brings many exciting new features to iPhone and iPad. It also brings in a lot of pretty annoying ones.
As with most new operating systems, iOS 11 experienced several glitches in the city during its first full week, including a bug that prevented Microsoft Exchange users from sending or receiving emails with their iPhones.
While this email issue has been fixed, there are still some things left. Here are some of the most frustrating things Apple has done with iOS 11.
IPad keyboard cluttered
I was pretty loud about my strong dislike of the new Flick Keys feature in the iPad, to the point that I wrote a post explaining how to turn it off. If you spend some time with the keyboard, it looks like you can definitely get used to it. However, I wish this was what you chose, not how Apple chose the default iPad keyboard in iOS 11.
32 bit apps don’t work
In iOS 11, Apple dropped support for 32-bit apps . Developers have been advised that their applications will need to be updated to 64-bit for a while, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise. However, if you were still using some of the older apps, they might stop working with iOS 11, and since the developers haven’t updated them yet, chances are good that those old apps will disappear forever.
Control Center does not disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
For most of us, opening Control Center was a great way to quickly turn off Bluetooth or Wi-Fi without having to navigate the settings menu on your phone or tablet. In iOS 11, these controls still exist, but they don’t really turn off completely. The point of leaving them on is to let your phone still mess with things like the Apple Watch and Apple Pencil, but it’s rather annoying that turning something off doesn’t actually do that anymore. We wrote a post detailing what you need to do now to disable these features.
New app store bombards you with autoplay ads
The new App Store is great, but it’s also loaded with autoplay ads. If you want to turn them off (who really wants ads to autoplay?), You can do so by going into the settings menu on your phone, then iTunes and the App Store, and then toggling autoplaying videos to Off. (Or Wi-Fi). only if you like ads but don’t want them to eat up your data).
No Facebook or Twitter integration
Now, if you want to share things via Facebook and Twitter, you need to install these apps on your phone and not just log in through the settings menu. Most people probably already have apps installed, but if you were the one who wanted to be able to post to Facebook without having an app to distract you on your phone, you are now SOL.
The night shift is hard to find
At first glance, it looks like Apple has removed Night Shift from Control Center. Instead, Apple just moved this feature to the iPhone’s brightness settings. If you’re a frequent user of this feature, we’ve written an explanation of where you can find it now, as well as how to use a new feature Apple added in iOS 11: Smart Inverse Colors.
