A poll on Twitter by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveals a misconception about boiling water recommendations: People think you need to cook this water for a very long time to kill germs. In fact, you just need to boil it for one minute.

Start the minute timer as soon as the water boils. However, it can take five or ten minutes from the moment you put the pot on the stove until it boils, so this could be a source of misconception. Anyway, now you know.
