Hackers Infected CCleaner 32-Bit App – Here’s How to Fix It
This morning, Piriform, the maker of CCleaner, a PC maintenance tool, announced that it had been hacked by hackers who infected nearly 2 million users with malware. Prifirom says the incident has since been resolved but encourages users to update their software to prevent further compromises.
The malware discovered by security researchers at Cisco Talos accompanied the download of certain versions of CCleaner. Fortunately, not every CCleaner user has been hit by a malware hack. “This compromise only affected customers with 32-bit v5.33.6162 CCleaner and v1.07.3191 CCleaner Cloud,” the company said in a statement regarding the breach. “No other Piriform or CCleaner products were harmed.”
We asked Avast, Piriform’s parent company, what to do if users find an infected version of the popular maintenance application.
They said that updating CCleaner to the latest version, 5.34, removes the malware, while CCleaner Cloud users should have already received a software update to fix the problem.
