Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Cherry Orchard Breeze

Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. I’m heading to the coast this weekend and updating a classic kitsch cocktail for the Pacific Northwest.

Unless someone else mixes drinks, I try to keep things simple when I’m out of town. I love my cocktails large (so I don’t have to constantly go back to my rented kitchen to mix another one), fruity and strong. I’ve been a longtime fan of Sea Breeze , which pairs vodka with cranberry and grapefruit juices, but the cranberry has a bit of Cape Cod flavor and I’ll be drinking on the Oregon Coast. To make this breeze more Oregon-friendly, I swapped out my regular cranberry shake for some sweet and tart cherry juice.

You can of course enjoy this drink wherever you are spending your weekend. To prepare this simply delicious drink, you will need:

  • 4 1/2 oz cherry juice
  • 2 ounces vodka
  • 1 1/2 ounce ruby and red grapefruit juice

Mix everything in a large shaker with ice and shake until cool. Strain into a pint glass filled with any shape of ice found in your rented refrigerator. In fact, put it in the Hydro Flask so you can drink on the beach without the fear of ice melting.
