How to Stop Being Jealous of Your Peers

“WARNING ARTISTS: Sometimes your friends will be successful and you’ll be jealous even if you don’t want to,” dinosaur comic writer and creator Ryan North says on an inspirational Twitter thread . He has two tips for dealing with envy that apply to anyone who was jealous of a colleague:

  • The first is for the good of your friend: when you congratulate him, don’t let your jealousy seep. You might be tempted to mention that you applied for the same promotion or tried a similar project that went nowhere. “It just makes the person feel bad,” North says and calls attention to you again.
  • The second is for you: it’s okay to have problems being happy for a friend, even if you know you should. Think selfishly: you need successful friends, don’t you? The better they live, the more they can help you in the future. Just don’t ask for a favor right away; set yourself a reminder for several weeks or months in the future.

We will add our own: with all our hearts and publicly promote their success. It creates some kindness and also makes you think in terms of real appreciation and flattery.
