How to Create Your Own Snapchat Geofilters Right From Your Phone
While Instagram is copying Snapchat’s features, the quirky social network with ephemeral content remains a unique place. One of its most distinctive features are geofilters – frames that you can overlay on your photos.
Snapchat staff usually develop geofilters, but now the photo app allows users to create their own and share their creations with friends.
To create your own geofilter, simply go to the app settings and click on “Geofilters on Demand,” which will automatically redirect you to your mobile creative studio. There you will be asked to choose from a variety of themes, such as “wedding”, “birthday” or “graduation”. Then you can customize the filters with bitmoji, text and stickers.
Once you finish customizing it yourself, you will need to choose the geographic location where you want the filter to appear and for how long – it could be anywhere from an hour to 90 days. Anyone in this area – whether or not they are part of your group – will be able to use the filter. So if you do a bawdy filter for Jenny’s bachelorette party, just keep in mind that anyone can see it.
Custom Geofilters start at $ 5.99, which is not bad for fancy filters that friends can use on Snapchat just to repost an image to Instagram Stories. Snap can usually approve it in just one business day.
If you don’t have Snapchat on your phone, but still want to experiment with Snap Geofilters for a friend’s party, you can do it online. Snapchat first introduced on-demand geofilters last year, but the feature was only available on desktops. The online version has all the same themes that are available for mobile devices, but it also allows companies or individuals to upload their own designs and create more varied filters.
