Happy Hour With 3 Ingredients: Strawberry & Citrus Cooler

Happy weekend and welcome back to Happy 3 Ingredient Hour , a weekly drinks column featuring very simple yet delicious libations. This week we are pairing summer strawberries with one of my favorite citrus liqueurs: Pierre Ferrand Dry Orange Curaçao .

Unlike its bright blue, much sweeter cousin, dry curaçao is balanced and juicy, with a nutty warmth and a pleasant bittersweet flavor. It’s tasty enough to enjoy on its own, but I like to pair it with strawberries and fresh lemon juice before pouring it onto crushed ice to get an almost slushy feeling. This is not only the personification of a summer drink, but also a great use for any berries that were not used to make a pie .

To make it you will need:

  • Strawberries (4-5 small or 2 large)
  • 2 ounces dry curaçao (there is no other curaçao for this drink )
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice

Mix the strawberries in a shaker and add all the other ingredients and some ice. Shake vigorously for at least 30 seconds and strain into a small ball 3/4 full with crushed ice. Garnish with lemon zest by squeezing the juice out of the lemon, squeezing the oil over the finished drink before placing the zest in a glass.
