Get Big Deal on Amazon Prime With Government Aid

If you are currently enrolled in a government assistance program such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), you can now get a full Amazon Prime membership for $ 6 a month.

Amazon announced the new initiative in a press release , expressing its desire for everyone to have access to Prime shipping, pricing, and media streaming. Here’s how a running program works :

  • Clients must be enrolled in one of the eligible public assistance programs (not all are covered). These include, but are not limited to, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutrition Program (SNAP), and Women’s, Infant and Child Nutrition Program (WIC).
  • Clients must have a valid EBT (Electronic Benefit Transfer) card. And you have to re-check the card with Amazon every 12 months. This process can be completed up to four times, after which you will have to pay your regular Prime subscription. However, this is a four-year discounted Prime membership.
  • While you will need to enter your EBT card number during the registration process, it is only used to confirm your eligibility. You cannot use it to pay for the Prime membership itself.

Once you sign up, Prime will only cost you $ 5.99 per month and you can cancel your subscription anytime you want. A regular monthly Prime subscription costs about $ 11 per month, so that’s an impressive 46% discount. A typical annual subscription is around $ 8.25 per month, so you still save if you look at it the same way. And that’s a full Prime membership: you have access to everything a regular Prime subscriber does , including free two-day shipping, streaming services, discounts, and more.

Of course, this move doesn’t entirely come from Amazon’s kindness. It sounds like a useful gesture, but Amazon’s goal is definitely to get more people into its network. However, this new program is a great way to do a good job and still make more money by increasing your client base. This is a win-win. You can find more detailed information about the program here .
