Decorate Your French Toast With Thai Iced Tea

As a teenager, I was convinced that I was very busy and therefore needed constant caffeine. I never liked coffee this much , but I really liked the Thai iced tea. I don’t drink a ton anymore, but I still love sweet aromatic tea and have found it makes amazing French toast.

Because Thai iced tea has such a strong flavor on its own, you don’t need anything for the dough other than eggs, dairy products, and tea. You can also turn excess tea into syrup. (Note: At the restaurant where I buy Thai tea, their tea is quite sweet. If you are making your own tea or think you need a little more sweetness, add a tablespoon of sugar.) To make this delicious treat. , you will need:

  • 8 thick slices of challah bread
  • 6 whole eggs
  • 3/4 cup Thai iced tea (no cream)
  • 3/4 cup half and half
  • A pinch of salt
  • Ghee for frying

Add eggs, tea, half and half, and salt to a large bowl and beat until smooth. Heat a couple tablespoons of ghee in a skillet over medium heat until melted and hot. Soak each slice of bread in the batter for about three minutes, turning once.

Fry in ghee for a couple of minutes on each side until golden brown. If cooking in batches, keep the slices warm at 200 degrees.

If making syrup, add about 1/4 cup of tea to a small saucepan and reduce heat over medium heat until smooth and thick. Drizzle over the flavored French toast. Enjoy.
