What’s Cooking? How Do You Have Breakfast?

Good afternoon and welcome back to theWhat is Cooking website? , a weekly open thread where you can share your brilliant thoughts, tips, recipes, and opinions on anything edible. Today I would like to talk about morning meals, including what you eat, how much you eat, and how important you think this supposedly crucial meal is.

I suck when I eat breakfast. I can fry eggs, beat up a medium Dutch, flip pancakes, and cook bacon to crispy perfection without any real problems, but when it comes to eating the so-called “most important meal of the day,” I am not completely. However, according to the Wall Street Journal , there are people who eat breakfast so well that they do it twice in one morning, like the hobbits.

In all fairness, the hobbits seemed to be the only race in Tolkien’s universe that knew anything about food, so perhaps they understood something. This double breakfast trend, which includes two small meals in the morning, appears to help people conserve energy and make better choices. According to the WSJ, Americans eat both on the way to work and after they arrive at their table. Food is usually focused on convenience foods – drinking yogurt, etc.

But enough about hobbits and their eating habits, I want to hear how you handle the first meal of the day. Here are some questions to help you get started:

  • How many breakfasts do you eat?
  • What do you eat for breakfast? Are you starting big or small?
  • Where do you have breakfast? (I ate in the car when I drove to work. I didn’t like that.)
  • Is your breakfast spicy or sweet? (For some reason, I have to start the day with something savory. For some reason, sweet breakfasts make me sick.)
  • What’s your favorite convenient breakfast?
  • Is cold pizza the best breakfast? (Yes.)
  • Have you tried any of these Pinterest breakfast muffins ?
  • Which country do you think is the best place to have breakfast? (I’m a big fan of a simple Italian breakfast of mostly coffee, but an English roast works wonders for a hangover.)
  • What’s your favorite fast food breakfast? (I think the Egg McMuffins are flawless.)
  • Is coffee considered breakfast? (I feel like I should if it has milk in it. Milk fills up.)
  • Have you found a weekday breakfast that fits perfectly into your daily routine?
  • What’s your favorite weekend breakfast when you have the luxury of time and a whole pot of coffee?

Of course, feel free to add any breakfast tips you think might be helpful, or at least interesting. I feel this will be an interesting discussion.
