Why You Should Find a Local Bakery This Weekend

There is nothing more delicious than bread and pastries just taken out of the oven. They smell good, they look good, they taste good, they can’t go wrong. But you can skip the story about the corporate grocery store – you can find the best bread at a local bakery.

Before indulging yourself with these delicious pastries, you should of course find out if you have a local bakery. Sure, you can buy pretty decent bread and the like at the grocery store, but it’s not as fresh and not as many options as your neighbor’s bakery. If you live in a medium to large city, chances are there is a bakery near your home. Besides looking for recommendations on Google or Yelp, you can also ask your favorite restaurant where they buy baked goods. So I found a bakery that I go to on weekends (they have the most delicious jelly donuts and challah). If you don’t have a bakery near your home, look around your work. My boyfriend found a great loaf near his office, and during his lunch break he grabs a fresh loaf of sourdough the size of my torso every week (seriously!).

The pastries you find at a nearby bakery are generally of higher quality and not much more expensive. Plus, as a regular visitor, you’ll find it easier to build relationships with the local bakery staff, which can often mean fresher or nicer food, discounts, or free groceries. Once you break the bread, it’s nice that even the staff knows what you want when you walk through the door.
