You Can Now Beg on Facebook

One of the most dystopian trends in recent years has been the crowdsourcing of emergency spending on the Internet. People need surgery, they can’t afford it, and they’ve been tasked with raising funds for their medical bills. You can now ask for money directly on Facebook.

Much of crowdfunding focuses on pipe dreams of developing a new invention, making a movie, making an album, or other fancy projects, but there is a growing trend towards using fundraising platforms like GoFundMe to cover fundamental costs, particularly in emergencies. I have seen friends whose family members were involved in a car accident and needed to raise funds to pay for treatment and recovery. Just this morning, a Facebook friend launched a campaign of some kind of bone reconstructive surgery. This is a brutal illustration of a broken medical system that forces people to ask for money in order to live.

Be that as it may, Facebook has new fundraising tools .

If you want to launch a campaign, you are limited to a few categories: education, medicine, pet care , crisis relief, emergency care, and funeral. It’s nice that communities can come together to help each other in difficult times, but I’m sad that we don’t yet provide such essentials. Please like and share if you agree.
