Instagram Launches Two-Factor Authentication for Everyone

Instagram has finally released an update that they tested over a year ago that adds two-factor authentication to their accounts. Here’s how to set it up.

To turn it on, tap the Me icon, then Options (gear icon), then look for Two-Factor Authentication. When you turn it on, Instagram sends a security code to your phone number. If you’ve never added a phone number, you can do so in Options> Edit Profile. After you turn on two-factor authentication, every time you sign in with a new device, a code is sent to your phone before you can sign in. You will also receive several backup codes in case you lose access to your phone, so be sure to keep them in a safe place.

Two-factor authentication is one of the simplest ways to protect your accounts, and since hacking social media accounts is generally embarrassing , it’s an easy way to help block those accounts. The same update also introduces a new sensitive content filter that blurs images that some might find offensive.
