How Trump’s Proposed Budget Could Affect Your Travel Plans

The U.S. Department of Transportation is facing a 13 percent funding cut in Trump’s proposed budget, and if that budget is depleted, your plane and train travel could be affected in several ways. Here are the changes you can see as a result of this new budget.

If you have family, friends, or a job that directs you to more distant parts of the country, getting there can be much more difficult if Trump reasoned with the DoT. Essential Air Services will be phased out, which means many small or rural airports will have to be closed. If you rely on these rural airports to fly from where you live, it will take much longer to get to the airport.

Amtrak will also suffer as funding changes to focus on the most popular routes, such as the Northeast Corridor. Trains could be cut to 23 states, and longer routes such as the California Zephyr (Chicago to San Francisco) will be stopped. Whether you find these cost savings to be reasonable if you are using smaller airports or less popular Amtrak routes, you might want to explore alternatives for future travel.
