Google Maps Can Now Share Your Location With Friends in Real Time

One of Waze’s best little features is the ability to share your location and ETA with a contact. Thus, you can answer the question “when will you come here?” question even before being asked. Now you can do this in Google Maps as well.

To share your location with a contact, open the sidebar and tap Share Location. Tap a contact and you will see various sharing options. You can share your location from 15 minutes or up to three days. Plus, you can share your location all the time, as long as you don’t manually turn it off. You can click on the same menu to turn off sharing at any time.

It is even more helpful to share your estimated arrival time on your trip. To do this, start navigation, then click the “More” button at the bottom of the screen. Click Share Ride and select the friends you want to send your estimated arrival time to. You will stop reporting your location as soon as you arrive at your destination. As always, Google is rolling out this feature gradually, so keep an eye on your Google Maps app for Android and iOS over the next week or so.
