The Most Popular Smoothie on Pinterest Is by No Means Expensive

The most popular smoothie recipe on Pinterest is a berry and kiwi mix and has been added over 300,000 times. So there must be something good about it? I tried it to make sure this smoothie tastes as good as it looks.

The ingredients are fairly easy to find: blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, kiwi, and orange juice. The berries must be frozen and the kiwi must be fresh. I started to lay out my ingredients, but when I got to the kiwi, I realized that I had no idea how best to peel the kiwi. I thought there must be some kind of answer site on the Internet .

I mixed everything together using a hand blender with a bowl attachment, but any blender you have should work fine. Even though the recipe is for one serving, the end result was quite a bit larger than I expected, so you can easily split this cocktail between two or three people. Since I don’t have Masonic cans, I poured the smoothies into the following Pinterest glasses I own — stemless wine glasses.

I ate (drank?) This smoothie for breakfast and although there was a lot of it, I was hungry again less than two hours later. To satisfy my hunger, I chose something more substantial: gnocchi and garlic bread. While I prefer high protein breakfasts so I don’t get hungry in the middle of the morning, I might find this smoothie a suitable breakfast if you don’t need a lot to get started.

Apart from the fact that the smoothie is not very satisfying, it only has one flavor note. Despite all the sugar in it (from juice and fruit), the smoothie is not very sweet, and the taste of blueberries is dominant, although this ingredient is the least. The author of the recipe suggests customizing the recipe to suit your tastes, and I agree. I made the recipe as written and it wasn’t very good. Here’s how you can make yours a lot better:

  • Improving the texture . Three different berries and a kiwi bring seeds to the smoothie, making it an unpleasant consistency. Even if I kept mixing until the seeds were as small as I could get them, the texture would still be gritty. If that’s none of your business, try swapping out some of the berries for other fruits, or cutting the core of the kiwi to keep the seeds from getting into the blender.
  • Add depth to the scent . Flavor each sip of your smoothie by adding a few tasty layers like coconut milk, agave, fresh lime or lemon juice, and zest. Hit your taste buds with add-ons that enhance sweet, floral, or tart flavors to complement the main ingredients in the smoothie.
  • Make it filling . Add yogurt, protein powder, leafy greens, peanut butter, or oatmeal to fill the smoothie before lunch. If you opt for more savory additives, you can change the other ingredients to suit this flavor profile. Added bonus: many of these substitutes make your smoothie healthier .

The smoothie can be used as a refreshing snack or if you don’t want a hearty breakfast, but add it rather than follow the original recipe.
