GenderEQ Tracks Which Gender Speaks the Most During Meetings

iPhone: Have you ever wondered exactly how much the men and women in your office talk during a meeting? GenderEQ can track this and break it down into percentages.

When you start a meeting (or any conversation at all), turn on GenderEQ and it will try to analyze the voices in the room as male or female. As the conversation continues, the percentages fluctuate up and down depending on who is speaking. Since it’s just a computer, GenderEQ can only recognize voice frequency, which means it stumbles over people whose voices don’t match gender stereotypes, but still fun to watch.

After doing a few tests, GenderEQ does a pretty good job of distinguishing between speakers, although this should certainly not be taken as empirical evidence. Even if I was just talking to him in a quiet room, it would result in an 80/20 split, which means I have to hit higher frequencies from time to time. However, GenderEQ is more trying to get a better understanding of how gender dynamics work in the office and it does its job to that end.
