Rest of the Day: Google Assistant Arrives on Other Android Phones
Google will add its virtual assistant to more Android phones this week. Google Assistant was previously exclusive to their own Pixel phones or through the Allo app, but they are now distributing it more widely. About this and much more in today’s news.
- Starting this week, Google Assistant will be available on phones running Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow. It is a powerful tool that offers improvements over the voice capabilities of previous similar services such as Google Now. [Google]
- AT&T simply changed its unlimited plan to make it more competitive over the recent changes made by T-Mobile and Verizon. Now that’s $ 90 a month for one unlimited data plan, two lines at $ 145 a month, and $ 20 for each additional line thereafter. [AT&T News]
- The latest Windows Insider build has a new feature that restricts the installation of desktop apps built with the Win32 API. When enabled, this means that users on a restricted computer can only install apps from the Windows Store. It is disabled by default, but can improve security for hobbyist users. [MSPowerUser]
- Twitch will sell video games. Starting this spring, publishers will be able to sell games directly from their pages, and Twitch affiliate streamers can earn 5% of sales from their pages. Referral selling is, of course, a well-established tactic of Amazon owning the company. [Diversity]
