Improve Your Reading Comprehension by Writing a Three-Sentence Resume

There is no point in reading something if you don’t take some of it with you. This simple exercise, if you take notes diligently, will help you remember the most what you read.

In his blog, James Clear talks about the importance of taking notes as you read, and keeping those notes organized and searchable. But Clear also recommends doing a summary exercise every time you finish a book. It’s simple: as soon as you finish reading the book, try to summarize everything you read in three sentences. Practice forces you to go back to your notes and pull out what was really important in the book. Now, in the future, you will not have to read the book again to restore the lost knowledge. You can simply view your notes and read your resume to unlock all locked knowledge. This can be used for everything you read, not just books. So write a little to improve your reading.
