Double Your Boot Space With This DIY Pull-Out Shelf

The pull-out trunk shelf is handy for increasing storage space and separating delicate items (like eggs or chips) from heavy ones that could damage them when moved in the trunk, but not every car has a shelf. Here’s how you can make your own with just a few supplies and a little effort.

For this project, you will need a metal cabinet shelf, two folding legs or shelves for cupboards, ties, tea cup hooks, and an auto-sorting carpet (optional). Measure the shelf and legs to make sure they fit in the trunk, and cut them off with a hacksaw if they are too large. You want the feet to tilt the shelf slightly towards the front of the machine to prevent items from rolling. Then attach the cup hooks to the back of the rear seat at the same level you want the shelf to hang and tie the legs to the shelf with the zip. You also have the option to carpet the shelf to make it look better, which will also help hide valuable items on the floor of your chest.

This trunk shelf won’t fit every car, but if it fits in yours, it’s an easy way to get more room for all of your belongings. Follow the link below to view step-by-step visual instructions.
