Most Common Terminal Commands to Know for Raspberry Pi

While the Raspberry Pi operating system is Linux, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to memorize every Linux command. The Pi is a different type of computer that is used for different projects, so the most useful commands are different from what you would use on a day-to-day Linux machine. At Circuit Basics, they counted their 42 most commonly used commands.

While only a few of these commands are raspi-config to the Raspberry Pi, such as raspi-config , most of them are common Linux commands. However, you will run some of these commands on your Raspberry Pi all the time, like ifconfig which shows the status of your network connection, or hostname -I which grabs the IP address of your Pi. These are the commands you’ll use a lot when setting up your new Pi, so it’s good to remember them. See Schematic Basics for a complete list.
