These Jobs Have the Greatest Potential for Growth in 2017
If you are thinking of a new career , you probably want to consider the industry’s growth potential and the job itself. LinkedIn analyzed salary and job data to identify the 20 jobs with the highest growth potential in 2017.
LinkedIn looked at its own data to compile a list, explaining its methodology:
Job rankings were based on a weighted score across five areas: salary, career advancement, number of US job openings, annual job growth, and broad regional availability. We looked at data from member profiles, jobs and salaries to rank the best jobs in terms of career advancement. If the results were equal, we put the headline with the most open positions higher.
In short, they considered salary, availability, and career potential. They also looked at the most in-demand skills in the industry. Based on this information, the five jobs with the highest growth potential were:
1. Hospitalist
Average Base Salary: $ 222,000 Job Openings (YoY Growth): Over 1,000 (87%) Career Grade (out of 10): 6.0 Core Skills: Health Management, Inpatient Care, EHR, Patient Safety, Internal Medicine
2. Pharmacist
Average Base Salary: $ 123,000 Job Openings (YoY Growth): 3,300+ (45%) Career Grade (out of 10): 5.0 Best Skills: Drug Therapy Management, Community Pharmacy, Patient Counseling, Pharmacy Automation, Immunization
Average Base Salary: $ 80,000 Jobs (YoY Growth): 3,000+ (159%) Career Score (out of 10): 6.0 Best Skills: Solution Sales, Sales Management, Project Development, Automation, Sales Engineering
Average Base Salary: $ 140,000 Jobs (YoY Growth): 300+ (93%) Career Grade (out of 10): 8.0 Top Skills: Linux, Python, Bash, Apache, Shell Scripting
Average Base Salary: $ 97,500 Jobs (YoY Growth): 3,000+ (11%) Career Grade (out of 10): 8.0 Best Skills: Product Development, Competition Analysis, Product Launch, Cross-Functional Team Leadership , marketing strategy
Keep in mind that the data comes from LinkedIn, and while LinkedIn is a huge recruiting resource, there are some industries that may have a smaller site presence. The Bureau of Labor Statistics has interesting general data on the jobs with the highest projected growth (Personal Care Assistants, Registered Nurses, Homecare Assistants, Food Service Providers, and Retail Workers). They also report labor shortages for computer programmers, correctional facilities. officers, occupational therapists, registered nurses, HR managers and secondary school teachers.
On the other hand, LinkedIn’s methodology takes it a step further and takes into account salary and promotion opportunities, so that also needs to be considered. Check out their full list at the link below.
