Four Easy Ways to Prevent Trash Bags From Slipping

Trash bags can be slippery characters, and fishing inside a pile of trash to reach the edge of the bag is a rather frustrating task. To prevent this very serious situation, try one (or more) of America’s Test Kitchen’s bag securing methods.

Watch the video above for a complete visual demonstration of each technique, but there are four different ways to prevent this tragic scenario:

  • Glue hooks: If you are using plastic bags with handles (such as shopping bags), you can hook the handles onto a pair of Velcro hooks attached to the side jar.
  • Bungee Cord: Simply fold the excess bag over the edge of the can and wrap the cord around the folded portion.
  • Tie It Up: If your bag is too big for your jar, just pick up the excess and tie it in a knot so it doesn’t slip off.
  • Bread bag clip: Gather the edges of the bag, twist and secure with the bag clip.

Once your bag is safe, you can freely throw your trash into the trash can, reassured by the fact that you don’t have to fish later.
