RansomFree Proactively Protects Your PC From Ransomware Attacks
Windows: RansomFree is a new tool that promises to stop ransomware attacks before they can encrypt all of your data. Instead of monitoring specific processes or trying to use signatures to detect ransomware, it monitors the behavior of running processes and alerts you when something happens.
Cybereason, the company behind Ransomfree, argues that part of the beauty of observing the behavior of processes around your files is that it allows Ransomfree to defend against future strains and niche types of ransomware. In fact, this tool was designed specifically to try and get ahead of the usual cat-and-mouse game between ransomware and decryption tools. Best of all, Ransomfree, as the name suggests, is completely free. If it detects suspicious activity, it will prompt you, before your files are encrypted, to allow it to stop the malicious process and remove the threat from your computer, or – if you are sure you just opened it – to allow the process to start.
The service is new, of course, but a quick look at sometests against common types of ransomware shows that it seems to work well in the wild. Instead, think of it as a complementary tool, which is pretty lightweight by the way. You can read more about this and how it works in the FAQ section here .
