Add Midterm Elections to Your 2018 Calendar While Still Remembering

Although we have just led to the swearing in of the United States 45th president for four years, two years will be even more choices. Add this to your calendar now while you’re still thinking about politics.

In 2018, the so-called “midterm elections” will be held in the United States. This is a quieter election in which a third of the Senate, the entire House of Representatives and many state governors are re-elected. The midterm elections also show significantly lower voter turnout than elections in which the presidency is vacant. In fact, according to Time, in the last midterm elections in 2014 , voter turnout was the lowest since World War II .

To combat this, humor and social commenting site Cracked suggests adding an event to your 2018 calendar to remind you. First, add an event for November 6, 2018, when the elections themselves take place. Optionally, you can add a reminder for a while during the summer to make sure you are registered. September is a good month for this reminder, although earlier is always better.

Mid-term elections are just as important (perhaps even more important) than the presidential election, but they are often overlooked because they are not as visible as the presidential election. Most of us tend to forget that they happen until it’s too late. If you’re still paying attention after your inauguration and want your voice to be heard between presidential elections , remind yourself of the future now.
