Three Photo Style Tips to Improve Your Instagram Pictures

Instagram is a fun place to share candid photos of your daily life, but many people choose deliberate compositions and care when taking a photo. Here are some photo styling tips to make your images more attractive.

This video was taken by a couple of photographers known as Mango Street . First, they suggest trying different points of view on your scene. Direct firing may work for some photos, but you can also try a 45-degree downward angle, or you can opt for a top-down bird’s-eye view if you’re trying to capture the composition on a table. (These three frames are especially suited to food photography, which is definitely a popular genre on Instagram.)

They also suggest that you are overflowing the frame, as it is a common mistake to simply leave too much negative white space in the frame. Too much happening is usually more convincing than too little. Finally, notice the straight lines and S-curves in the photo and how the whole composition fits together.

I know some people might roll their eyes at the thought of putting so much work into a simple Instagram photo, but if you’re proud of your photo, composing and thinking about the shot is part of the fun.
