If you haven’t watered the tree since you forgot about it on the 26th, now is the time to take it out of the house. Unwatered Christmas trees pose a huge fire hazard, as this video from the National Fire Protection Association makes clear.
According to a report by the same group, fires starting at the Christmas tree are also more deadly than the average home fire. However, if you like keeping the tree close at hand, water it right from the start. The second tree in the video was re-pruned just before it was planted and watered regularly. It can still ignite, but it is more of a slow burning than an instant fire.
