Find New Friends Faster With Litmus Paper
Making new friends after moving or changing jobs is already difficult, so it’s best not to waste time meeting people who end up driving you crazy. Here’s a quick way to find out if someone is a friend.
John Levy, author of The 2 AM Principle: Discover the Science of Adventure , shared one of his tips for finding friends quickly in New York Magazine: Develop a litmus test for a potential friend. Your test should consist of a few simple questions covering the main character traits you are looking for, as well as a few questions to avoid. For example, if you are looking for someone to try adventures with, Levy suggests that you ask them a question like, “What’s the craziest thing you did when you made up your mind?” If their answer is something like, “Oh, I’ve never done anything with courage,” then they may not be the best friend you are looking for. Of course, your questions may be about anything that matters to you. Just make sure they sound natural and not like an awkward interview.
