This Map Will Take You on an Epic Tour of Nearly 50,000 US Historic Sites.

If you’ve ever wanted to visit all of the interesting historical sites in the United States, this map walks you through each one using the shortest mathematically possible route.

The map , created by University of Waterloo professor William Cook and his team of researchers, uses Google Maps to find the shortest path to every site listed on the US National Register of Historic Places . It’s a damn cool ride, however, as the entire tour spans over 217,605 miles – or anywhere from eight to nine circles around the equator. Fortunately, the huge map is divided into four different regions of the United States, making it useful for any traveler looking to make the most of their trip to specific regions of the country.
