Make It Easy to Buy Gifts With the “I Want, Carry, Need, Read” Section

If you find it difficult to choose gifts for important people, this simple rubric will help you narrow down your questions.

Buying gifts is supposed to be fun and make you feel good, but it can often turn into an ordeal. That’s why Apartment Therapy ‘s Taryn Williford recommends narrowing each person’s list down to four main categories:

  • Want: Give them something fun you thought they would want.
  • Clothes: Buy them something pretty that you think they’ll wear (get a gift slip just in case).
  • Need: Give them what they would use or need.
  • Read: Get them something

Instead of one big gift they may or may not love, they will receive four smaller gifts that cover all reasons. Whatever happens, they will be happy – and it will make you happier and less stressed.
