Why It’s Important to Appreciate the Little Things

We all have goals and ambitions that we want to strike off our wishlist , but happiness doesn’t just come from innovative, life-changing experiences. As the School of Life explains, it is important to focus on small pleasures as we work towards higher goals.

Getting a promotion or getting your dream job is great, but there is also something to be said for minor pleasures like taking a bath, having a nice conversation with a friend, or looking at old photographs. The School of Life puts it this way:

… that this kind of activity can be some of the most exciting and rewarding we can have … there is no point in chasing the future until we can better adapt to the humble moments and things that are happening now or readily … available to us. In fact, the insignificance of small pleasures is not really an estimate of how much they have to offer us: it is a reflection of how many good things the world unfairly neglects.

It is natural to place more emphasis on pleasures that are rare and rare. They are complex, rare or expensive, so we think they should be better. But small pleasures can be no less pleasant , and you need to learn how to enjoy them:

Appreciating small pleasures means trusting a little more in our own answers. We cannot wait for all that is beautiful and charming to be approved by others before we allow ourselves to be enchanted. We need to follow the muffled signals of our own brains and admit that we are on something important, even if others may not agree yet.
