Android 7.1.1 Comes to Nine Devices With New Emojis and Shortcuts on the Home Screen

Most people still haven’t gotten the first version of Android Nougat , and yet Google is still working on small releases. The company today announced version 7.1.1, which includes new emojis, GIF search in supported apps, and home screen shortcuts.

The new version is a very minor update following 7.1 just two months ago, bringing seamless updates and VR support . For comparison, 7.1.1 is even more minor. According to Google, this update brings a new, more diverse set of emojis with skin tones and gender alternatives for much more jobs and activities (as shown above).

It also includes GIF search in apps that have this feature enabled. This list currently includes Allo, Google Messenger, and Hangouts, which are still not all of the messaging apps that Google owns, but close enough. Finally, the home screen shortcuts that launched alongside Pixels are now available on more devices. Android 7.1.1 launches today on the following nine devices:

  • Nexus 6
  • Nexus 5X
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus 9
  • Pixel
  • Pixel XL
  • Nexus player
  • Pixel C
  • General Mobile 4G (Android One)

If you were using the Android beta , you will also be updated to the latest stable Android 7.1.1. Check out Google’s post below for more information.
