Hire Others to Sleep Better

You probably need to get up at a specific time every morning, so getting a good night’s sleep requires getting to sleep on time the night before. If you can’t go to bed at a decent hour on your own, ask for help.

Delaying sleep is easy. There is always another streak of TV watching, one more hour for you to spend with your friends, and another cup of coffee that you can have in the morning to make up for that. But good sleep is more important than you think, and lack of it can ruin you .

If you’ve tried to go to bed on time on your own, psychology professor Dan Ariely suggests asking your partner, relative, or roommate to hold you accountable and in control. If you live alone, ask someone to help you remotely. Tell them that you will be writing a picture of you ready for bed every night, or ask them to write to you at a specific time to check how you are feeling. Maybe they want to get more sleep and you can help each other. Get some help so you can get some sleep.
