Chromecast Adds a Notification to Every Device on Your Network, Here’s How to Turn It Off
The Chromecast recently had a weird quirk. When you stream something from your phone to your TV, every device on your network will receive a notification to control it. If this annoys you, here’s how to turn it off.
Network-wide notification appears to be the solution to an issue that the Chromecast has had since they first hit the scene. Namely, you don’t have a remote control that you can just grab and pause. If one person’s device is connected to a Chromecast, you can control it with it, but they have the nasty habit of disconnecting if you don’t use them for too long. To address this issue, this new network-wide notification provides everyone with basic controls.
The downside of this solution is that everyone has a notification. Even if you’re not watching TV, you get a notification, which is annoying. You also delegate control of your flow to anyone in the house. While technically anyone on the network can take on a Chromecast at any time, it makes it easier to interact with other people’s streams and lets everyone know that you’re watching unnecessarily. To disable this feature, follow these steps:
- When the network-wide notification appears, swipe down with two fingers.
- Tap the settings icon.
- Uncheck the toggle that says “Show remote control notifications.”
Alternatively, you can turn it off completely by going to Settings> Google> Google Cast in your phone’s Settings app. Both methods completely remove the notification.
