Seven Ways to Save Your DSLR Battery

Your camera battery will drain quickly, even if you started with several and they were all fully charged. Whether you’re working from scratch because it’s been a long day, or you just forgot to pack your backup, these tips will help you make the most of your remaining battery without sacrificing your photos.

The video itself, from the folks at the SLR Lounge , is always a good resource for the best photos. Some of the tips might seem a little obvious, like turning off camera stabilization when you don’t need it, or when you can compensate for turning it off. Turning off sensor wipe every time you turn your camera on and off is another way to save some power – just remember to turn it back on when you charge. Many cameras also allow you to turn off unnecessary features by quickly adjusting settings, such as Sony mirrorless cameras, which have a built-in “airplane mode” to help you save battery power.

For a less drastic measure, you can turn off image preview when your photo is displayed on the LCD after you take a photo. This way, you can just take pictures and review them later, instead of letting the LCD turn on and stay on while you actually take pictures. While you are doing this, consider dimming the LCD display temporarily. These are just a few of the options, so click Play to find out more, or follow the links below to watch a YouTube video.
