The Qualities That Employers Value Most in a Potential Leader

Skills, experience and knowledge are certainly important when it comes to career advancement. However, many employers look beyond these qualities of a leader. According to a recent poll, the main trait they are looking for is decency.

In a new survey by Management Resources Group Robert Half, thousands of CFOs were asked to choose the three most important attributes of a potential leader. 46% of them chose honesty, and another 45% also chose honesty. Surprisingly, only 22% ranked decisiveness in the top three traits.

  • Fairness: 45%
  • Determination: 22%
  • Strategic thinking: 32%
  • Transparency: 33%
  • Availability: 33%
  • Collective thinking: 39%
  • Competitiveness: 30%

The poll press release states:

“When it comes to the people who lead them, professionals place more emphasis on personal qualities than on serious business advantages,” the study says. “According to the study, this feeling is consistent with a top leader. CFOs most often report that they value the integrity of business leaders. Determination and competitiveness were the least mentioned by CFOs. ”

The survey also compares these responses to those of workers to see how different points of view differ. For example, 75% of employees cited decency as one of their most important traits, but unlike employers, they also valued decisiveness. 37% said this was the main feature.
