Microsoft Translator Updates to Neural Network Translations

It looks like Google isn’t the only developer using neural network technology in their translation app . Microsoft Translator has also recently been updated to better understand complete sentences and provide more natural output.

Neural network translation now works with some languages in the Microsoft Translator mobile app, desktop app, and Skype Translator. Translations take full sentences into account, can handle language variations using advanced pattern recognition, and gradually master the intricacies of the language over time. The new speech API currently supports nine languages:

  1. Arab
  2. chinese mandarin
  3. English
  4. French
  5. Deutsch
  6. Italian
  7. Brazilian Portuguese
  8. Russian
  9. Spanish language

Neural networks also provide Japanese translation of text. This update is of great help to Microsoft in its translator arms race with Google and is well timed. If you want to know how neural network translation compares to previously used statistical machine translation (SMT) technology, you can see for yourself here on this website .
