IOS Patch Adds Background Blur to Any Photo
iOS: Apple recently introduced a new Portrait Mode that adds an artificial depth of field effect when capturing a photo, but it only works on the iPhone 7 Plus. With Patch, you can get a similar effect on any iPhone.
Patch uses neural networks to analyze your photo and identify your subject. It is far from perfect, so it is more of a fun photo toy than a serious tool. But the developer expected that he would not always accurately find the outline of the intended object, so you can adjust the mask yourself by manually selecting or removing the affected areas of the blur. This works most effectively when you capture a clear image of someone on the spot. The above examples were shot under ideal conditions and look great.
But here are some examples I made with random images on my phone:
It struggled a bit with the toddler in the center, but did a pretty good job with my image on the left (although the leaves of the tree confused the app and kept parts in focus). On the right, you can see the editing tool for adjusting the mask.
The patch is free, but it will add a small watermark to each photo. Otherwise, it costs $ 1.
