Best Dutch Oven You Can Get for a Reasonable Price

Everyone loves Le Creuset Dutch ovens, and for good reason, but their price tag (which is usually over $ 350) can be a little tricky to swallow. Fortunately, Cook’s Illustrated has tested many cheaper brands and models to find a comparable pot at a reasonable price.

Cook’s Illustrated brought together seven applicants, baked, stewed, boiled and abused to see them uphold their Platonic ideal of enamel cookware – the Le Creuset 7 1/4 round Dutch oven . Cuisinart 7 Qt model . The Round Covered Casserole is superb, heating evenly and keeping warm, which is good, and had a nice wide and squat shape with easy grip handles. It was a couple of pounds heavier than the Le Creuset and suffered some cosmetic damage during testing, but when you consider that it’s almost a third of the price (around $ 121), that’s not too bad. (If, however, you simply need to own Le Creuset, all is not lost. Look for department stores such as TJ Maxx, Homegoods and Marshall’s that sometimes have good stuff at a significantly discounted price.)
