Rest of the Day: Scribd Now Offers Magazines With E-Book Subscriptions
Scribd, a document-sharing site that has evolved into a subscription service for electronic and audiobooks, now offers magazines to subscribers along with their current library of ebooks. About this and much more in today’s news.
- For $ 8.99 a month, Scribd users get access to select magazines including Time, Bloomberg, Fortune, People, New York Magazine and a few others. This is, of course, in addition to the standard Scribd eBook offerings. They will add more magazines in the coming weeks. [Scribd]
- Hulu’s upcoming live streaming service will include ABC, Disney, ESPN and Fox. Whether they will be able to access NBC and CBS is not yet known, but they are also dealing with Time Warner (which, among other channels, owns CNN and TBS). They are aiming to launch in 2017. Between Hulu and DirecTV Now , 2017 definitely sounds like the year that live internet TV is targeting the mainstream. [The Verge]
- Shopping goes to Instagram. You will soon see options for buying what you see in your ad. This is fine. [Instagram Business]
- Nintendo will stop production of the Wii U this week. Their next console / portable hybrid Switch is slated to launch next year, and some games, such as the next batch of Zelda, will be released on both systems. I’m looking forward to this discount! [Eurogamer via Ars Technica ]
- Microsoft Flow, their IFTTT-like service, is now out of beta . They sell it more to professional business users than regular craftsmen, but it looks quite suitable for everyone. [Android Police]
