Use the Pick Two Rule to Keep Track of Your Calories While Dining Out

It’s hard to stick to this train of healthy eating when you dine out and it all sounds amazing. Instead of giving up or giving up on a full cheat meal, just limit yourself to only choosing two things you really want to eat.

The Rule of Two is a self-regulatory tactic that helps you control your urge to eat and be more mindful of your choices. It works like this: you can eat or drink whatever you want, but it can only be two items. Choose wisely bread, chips, onion ring or grilled squid appetizer, alcohol, steak, ice cream or any other dessert. You might be better off choosing a sensible meal and a few other things to make you feel full and satisfied.

Apply this to any social setting where you might be among the foods you love but want to moderate yourself, whether it’s in a restaurant, at a big party, at a wedding buffet, at Thanksgiving dinner, and so on. Pick two items and just stick with those two, because biting off everything is a good way to grossly underestimate the calories and can even cause the “Eh, that’s enough” binge.
