Get Free Unlimited Wi-Fi on Flights & Bypass Paywall

Wi-Fi during the flight is great. The cost of using it, on the other hand, is not that high. There are several ways to get free access , but these two are relatively simple. The first requires only an iPhone. The second requires a VPS or server that you manage. Both provide free unlimited access for the entire flight.

At SCS Security, someguy1 explains that there are two different methods he recently tested for bypassing Gogo Inflight’s paid Wi-Fi access, neither of which involve gimmicks or real-life hacks. First, the iPhone method, since it’s a little simpler:

  1. Connect to GoGo Wifi
  2. Go to the GoGo Movie library (free or paid, it doesn’t matter, you won’t pay)
  3. Click on the movie and you will be taken to the page to download the GoGo app.
  4. Enter the Captcha code to access the application.
  5. send
  6. Don’t close your browser now! Open a new tab and start browsing the web. If you leave the authentication box active, you will save the authentication cookie! Now you can view as much as you like. As soon as you close your browser window, you will lose your session.

Enjoy free Wi-Fi!

The iPhone method is pretty simple, and it works – if you’re okay, browse on your iPhone the entire flight (or link your iPhone to your laptop, but that can be a daunting task).

The next method, which requires you to have a VPS (virtual private server) hosted somewhere or your own home server with internet access that you can proxy to. I’ll let you go to its full post below to read, but the bottom line is that after scanning the ports on the local network someguy1 found that three ports have access to the Internet: 443 (which makes sense, it’s https), 53 (DNS servers listening to this port) and 3128 (ah-ha!) The rest is history:

At 53, I was able to establish a full TCP connection, but was unable to transfer the SSH certificate to the VPS (used -vvv to see where SSH hangs).

On 443, I could not get out of the network at all (SYN SENT – according to netstat)

On 3128 I was able to ssh to my VPS port 3128! Jackpot! The proxy server did not check traffic on this port. so I ran the following SSH command to create a SOCKS5 proxy on my computer:

ssh -D 3128 [email protected] -p 3128

Now I went into my browser’s network settings, checked “use proxy” and in the “socks” section (maybe an option for socks 4 and 5, if yes, use 5) I entered my localhost and port (127.0.0.1: 3128) and saved.

VIOLA (sic)! I was able to view the entire flight for free!

As we mentioned, this approach isn’t for everyone – it definitely takes a little more savvy, and also requires an external server that you can SSH to and set up as a proxy after connecting to it. But the end result is clear – free Wi-Fi during the flight, which is easy to replicate on future flights.

Of course, use your powers for good and keep in mind that this is a loophole that can be closed at any time, so be prepared to go the iPhone route or just lay out for access if you need to.
