Android 7.1 Keyboard Hides Handy New GIF Search Tool

Apps like Facebook Messenger had a built-in GIF search for a while, but now Google adds it right to the default keyboard in Android 7.1 . It will even remember the ones you use the most.

This feature is surprisingly buried. If you don’t already know that it is there, you can skip it. To find it, tap the emoji icon on your Google keyboard . The emoji pop-up menu has a GIF button at the bottom. Tap that and you can find a selection of searchable GIFs. Best of all, there is a “frequently used” button that will save the ones you use all the time.

This feature will only work if you’re using the Google keyboard on Android 7.1, which you can now try on the Nexus 5X, 6P, and Pixel C. Or it should be available by default if you’ve opted for the new Pixel phones.
