Where to Go When Your Bank Screwed Up
For the most part, we trust banks with our money and day-to-day operations. However, as we saw recently, banks do not always close a deal to keep our finances safe. If you have a complaint with your bank and they cannot resolve it, here’s what you can do.
As Bankrate explains, if you have a problem with your bank, you should first try to resolve it with the institution. However, they don’t always help . Here’s where you can turn if they won’t work with you.
- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB): The CFPB accepts complaints against banks and credit unions at help.consumerfinance.gov .
- Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation : According to Bankrate, the FDIC controls “more than half of the institutions in the banking system.” They have an online consumer assistance form that allows you to file a claim with an FDIC regulated institution.
- Federal Reserve System: They accept consumer complaints at FederalReserveConsumerHelp.com . You can also call their customer service at (888) 851-1920 or send a fax at (877) 888-2520.
Again, you definitely want to try to fix your bank issue first, but these are reliable resources if you get stuck. More information about Bankrate can be found at the link below.
